Shiloh Lodge #327
November 2003
Trestleboard
From the East
Our minister was talking about the necessity of “belonging” to church. His message applied to Masonry just as well. It went along these lines:
In order to cook hamburgers on a grill, you need a good bed of glowing hot charcoal briquettes. As long as all of the briquettes are in one pile and connected, all of them glow with equal brilliance. But let a couple of the briquettes become separated from the main fire, and they will slowly die out and become cold and useless and contribute nothing to the cooking process.
You are all Masons. You all, at sometime in your life, decided that you needed Masonry and willingly joined with enthusiasm. A few years may have passed and your involvement may have diminished. However, your need for Masonry has not changed. Isn’t it time to re-evaluate your commitment to the order and bring yourself back into the roaring fire. Once you do that that, your individual fire will be rekindled. You will again contribute your “heat” to your and the lodge’s benefit.
Fraternally Yours,
Charles W. Amidon
Worshipful Master-2003

Brother John was a charter member of Shiloh Lodge #327 and was our second Bronze Jordan Medal holder from 1984 until his death on September 13, 2003. John became a 60 year member of the Fraternity in 2002. John contributed much time, energy and well respected advice to our lodge, the Omaha Home for Boys and the community throughout his years of service. John will be missed by all the Brethren.

Albert Pike
A Freemason, therefore, should be a man of honor and of conscience, preferring his duty to everything beside, even to his life; independent in his opinions, and of good morals, submissive to the laws, devoted to humanity, to his country, to his family; kind and indulgent to his brethren, friend of all virtuous men, and ready to assist his fellows by all means in his power. (p. 113)
The great distinguishing characteristic of a Mason is a sympathy with his kind, He recognizes in the human race one great family, all connected with himself by those invisible links, and that mighty network of circumstance, forged and woven by God. (p. 176)
The practical object of Masonry is the physical and moral amelioration and the intellectual and spiritual improvement of individuals and society. (p. 218)
