From the East

One of the pamphlets on the reading rack is entitled What’s A Mason? A section within the pamphlet asks What is a lodge?, and goes on to say it’s both a group of Masons and the place in which they meet.

I have thought about that from the aspect of who makes up the lodge. We all know it takes so many members to open and close. But what about all the other Brothers who are really instrumental in making it a viable lodge. Our Secretary puts in a great deal of time with records, minutes, the roster of members and notices. Our Treasurer has his numerous task as well. Besides the line officers, there is a cadre of talent for lectures in the various degrees. We are fortunate that we have these brothers for degree work, as some lodges have to call for help from other lodges when conducting degrees. And then there are the Past Masters who are ready to step in when an officer is absent or furnish advice when called upon.

There are a couple of things that have prompted my consideration of all this talent. First, it is certainly more meaningful now that I am Master! Secondly, it has to do with Builders Club. February is the fifth anniversary of the formation of this group of retirees. They meet a couple of times a month and fix-up, paint, pick up litter and do outside work in the summer months. This group was formed as a request of W\ Dave Sharp during his term as Master.

Two of its original members, Bob Pierce and W\ Sam Nielsen, have died. Others have joined so a pretty consistent work force of 6 to 8 assemble on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. You don’t have to be retired or from Shiloh to participate as BC is open to all the brothers who make up SHI-OMA. Thanks to Dave Sharp and the Builders Club, they have made a difference.

And by the way, the next time you are at lodge check out the new tile floor in SHI-OMA’s kitchen. The new floor is compliments of Templecraft. The freshly painted walls and moving appliances in and out for the tile layers are compliments of Builders Club.

In recognition of the Fifth Anniversary of Builders Club and all the talent and support we have from all the members of Shiloh Lodge #327 in maintaining a viable lodge, we would like you and your Lady to join fellow members in an Appreciation Dinner at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, March 6, 2002. Come and celebrate.

On another note, I would like to Thank Jeremy Morton and W\ John Maxell for arranging the Super Sweetheart’s Dinner at Lo Sole Mio Italian Restaurant for Valentines Day. Forty five enjoyed a fun evening. Great job, John and Jeremy. By the way, the sunburst is prominently displayed!

Fraternally yours,

Dale W. Nelson
