Shiloh Lodge #327
June 2003
 Trestleboard

 From the East

Guess What?  So far this year, we have initiated at least a half dozen new members.  In May we raised two more.  In June, we will be voting on two new petitions for the degrees and two for affiliation.  If the math is correct, this will make an even dozen for the first half of the year.  Our goal of twenty new member in 2003 will be better than 50% completed with six more months to go!  While we are on a roll, let’s boost our goal to thirty and go for the Rock Maul Award which we won almost twenty years ago.

In June, we will have another 7:00 pm educational session prior to the Regular Business Meeting @ 7:30 pm.  RW\Ivan Vrtiska, our own Grand Junior Deacon of whom we are so very proud, will give a presentation on the proposed OMAHA MASONIC CENTER which is planned for construction at 120th & Rainwood.  You have all heard rumors about this project, most of which are way off base.  Why speculate when you will have an opportunity to get the facts right from the horse’s mouth!

These educational sessions seem to be what the membership has been waiting for.  In April, we had 24 in attendance and repeated this turnout with another 21 in May.  We have plenty of seats available for June.  (For those who don’t like dull business meetings, you can be assured that if such meetings last more than an hour, you can lynch the Worshipful Master.)

See you all on June 4th at 7:00 pm.

Fraternally Yours,

Charles W. Amidon

Worshipful Master-2003

Flattering as it may be to the human mind, and truly honorable as it is to receive from our fellow citizens testimonies of approbation for exertions to promote the public welfare, it is not less pleasing to know that the milder virtues of the heart are highly respected by a Society whose liberal principles must be founded in the immutable laws of truth and justice.

To enlarge the sphere of social happiness is worthy of the benevolent design of a Masonic institution; and it is most fervently to be wished that the conduct of every member of the Fraternity, as well as those publications that discover the principles which actuate them, may tend to convince mankind that the great object of Masonry is to promote the happiness of the human race.

(George Washington)

It is most true, that Truth is a Divine attribute and the foundation of every virtue.

To be true, and to seek to find and learn the Truth, are the great objects of every good Mason.

(Albert Pike)

How far that little candle throws his beams!  So shines a good deed in a naughty world.  Heaven doth with us as we with torches do; Not light them for themselves; for if our virtues, Did not go forth of us, 'twere all alike ... As if we had them not.

(William Shakespeare)
