Shiloh Lodge #327

From the East
(Following is the essence of the mission statement delivered at the installation of officers for Shiloh Lodge #327.)
It is essential that the members of the lodge (particularly the officers) need to realize their individual responsibility of developing leadership for the coming year. Ideas for new programs will be encouraged. Dedicated leadership will be expected from the corps of officers. New brethren will be encouraged to take an active part in the life of the lodge.
New membership recruitment remains a vital part of our future growth. Consequently, additional programs will be planned as often as time permits to attract and educate prospects. Anticipating additional candidates, no special events will be planned for the regular Wednesday evening meetings and all officers should arrange their calendars to keep as many Wednesday evenings open as possible. If no candidates are available to be initiated on any particular meeting night, we will use that evening as a Floor Work Training Session, which all will agree is sadly lacking.
Educational presentations will be arranged to attract new and old members. Perhaps these could be held at a Saturday morning coffee klatsch or prior to the regular monthly business meetings.
This is the year to "think out of the box" and your Master will be anxious to consider all possible options.
A leader is one who leads. In the year 2003, what we will be needing most is a strong army of true leaders! Let’s go for the Rock Maul Trophy in 2003!
Fraternally Yours,
Charles W. Amidon

SWEETHEART DINNER
Ancient Definition
In The Farmers Almanac for 1823 published at Andover, Mass., the following was printed under the heading,
"Character of a Freemason":
The real Freemason is distinguished from the rest of Mankind by the uniform unrestrained rectitude of his conduct.
Other men are honest in fear of punishment which the law might inflect; they are religious in expectation of being rewarded, or in dread of the devil, in the next world.
A Freemason would be just if there were no laws, human or divine except those written in his heart by the finger of his Creator.
In every climate, under every system of religion, he is the same.
He kneels before the Universal Throne of God in gratitude for the blessings he has received and humble solicitation for his future protection.
He venerates the good men of all religions.
He disturbs not the religion of others.
He restrains his passions, because they cannot be indulged without injuring his neighbor or himself.
He gives no offense, because he does not choose to be offended.
He contracts no debts which he is certain he cannot discharge, because he is honest upon principal.
