Shiloh Lodge #327
February 1999 Trestleboard
From the East
1999 is here, and that means that the gavel has been passed from WM Paul Rutherford to me. Paul did a great job last year, but now has a much more difficult task at hand -- to try to teach me tricks of the trade of working in the East. You remember when you were told in the Masters degree "that we will ever whisper good counsel in the ear of a brother in need…", well, I hope that the brothers will whisper good counsel in my ear (and maybe help me and my fellow officers in their floorwork) whenever necessary.
I want to thank Brothers Amidon, Gathmann, Mason and Taylor for all of the time they have spent so far helping me with the Degree work. I know that they will always be there when I need a little nudge.
Brother Dale Nelson has already started the ball rolling this year by setting up the Sweetheart Dinner, scheduled for February 15 at the Venice Inn. Be sure to get your reservations in early!
Finally, thanks to all of you in advance for coming to our Installation on Saturday. Your support is greatly appreciated.
See you in Lodge!
Fraternally Yours,
J. Scott Oglesby
Worshipful Master-1999

THE LAMBSKIN APRON
During the Entered Apprentice Degree work, mention is made of four ancient orders; The Golden Fleece, the Roman Eagle, the Star and the Garter.
The Golden Fleece was founded by Philip, Duke of Burgundy in 1429. It was established in Flanders and enjoyed high repute as an Order of Knighthood. It has always been considered one of the most illustrious Orders of Europe.
The Roman Eagle was to the Romans the ensign of imperial power. It is of great antiquity, having existed for at least a hundred years before the birth of Christ.
The Order of the Star was created by John II of France in the middle of the Fourteenth Century.
The Order of the Garter was, and always has been considered the highest decoration a British sovereign could bestow upon his subject. This, the highest Order of Knighthood in Great Britain was created by Edward III of England in 1344 for himself and twenty-five Knights of the Garter.
Thus, it is that our Masonic Apron, proudly worn by members of the Masonic Order, is compared with the noblest decorations of Ancient Rome and Modern Europe.
