Education Program & Dinner April 4, 2001

Shiloh Lodge will have the Grand Historian Russell W. Hobson speaking at our educational program. This program will be open to everyone who attends the dinner.

  From the East

In putting out the April Newsletter, I am reminded that the year is one fourth gone, as is my year as Master. I can't believe that time flies so fast.

I'd like to thank everyone for attending last month's business meeting. We started the evening with the Jobs Daughter Annual Box Dinner. The girls raised close to $200.00. (Thank You Gentleman).

We then proceeded to open the lodge and receive the Grand Master of the State of Nebraska, Phil A. Lorenzen. Phil gave us a brief outline of what he would like to see happen this year, along with a nice history lesson on the gavel that he will be using.

It was nice to have Phil at our lodge and we hope that he will visit Shiloh again on April 29TH for our Pancake Feed.

Fraternally Yours,

John T. Maxell

The Grand Lodge of Nebraska Education Committee has recommended the following book to improve our knowledge of Freemasonry.

House Undivided: The Story of Freemasonry and the Civil War

By Allen E. Roberts

For the student of the Civil War or history buffs in general, this book is a "must." It fills in an amazing gap in most standard histories: the actions of American Grand Lodges before, during, and after this tragic conflict. You'll learn which Grand Lodges were willing to ignore the temporary differences of the war, which wanted to punish the "traitors."
