Shiloh Lodge #327
April 1999 Trestleboard
From the East
Do you remember the pass of a Master Mason? How about the Grand Hailing Sign of Masonry? Are you a little “rusty”, and not sure of all of the things that you need to know to get into Lodge again? Well, you’re not alone. There are a lot of you around that would like to come back to Lodge, but are embarrassed that they might not remember the right thing to say or do. Shiloh is going to have a night for you in May – our first annual “Rusty Nail Night”, where you can come to Lodge, meet all of the new Officers, and go over all of those questions you have. We want you back, and this will be the perfect night to “brush up “ on your Masonic knowledge. Not only that, but there will be refreshments and fellowship following the program. So – mark Wednesday, May 12 on your calendar, and, if you are already proficient, you can come and lend a hand. Lets all get together and make this a great night.
See you in Lodge!
Fraternally yours,
J. Scott Oglesby
Worshipful Master -- 1999

FREEMASONRY
Freemasonry has tenets peculiar to itself. They serve as testimonials of character and qualifications, which are only conferred after due course of instruction and examination. These are of no small value; they speak a universal language, and act as a passport to the attentions and support of the initiated in all parts of the world. They cannot be lost as long as memory retains its power. Let the possessor of them be expatriated, shipwrecked or imprisoned, let him be stripped of everything he has got in the world, still those credentials remain, and are available for use as circumstances require. The good effects they have produced are established by the most incontestable facts of history. They have the uplifted hand of the destroyer; they have softened asperities of the tyrant; they have mitigated the horrors of captivity; they have subdued the rancor of malevolence; and broken down the barriers of political animosity and sectarian alienation. On the field of battle, in the solitudes of the uncultivated forest, or in the busy haunts of the crowded city, they have made men of the most hostile feelings, the most distant regions, and diversified conditions, rush to the aid of each other, and feel a special joy and satisfaction that they have been able to afford relief to a Brother Mason.

Our condolences go out to Brother David Sorbel’s wife, June on Dave’s death.
Brother David was a longtime member at Shiloh and received his 50-year pin last year. Shiloh Lodge was honored by being allowed to perform a Masonic memorial service as well as a service at the cemetery. Thanks to all of the members who joined MW Chas Amidon at the services.
